He spoke of a new covenant that God was bringing to both the Jews and Gentiles, one of foregiveness and mercy.

By the time Jesus was 33; his message had spread throughout the land. He was popular among his people and many were already acknowledging him as the Messiah.

At the same time Jesus was also making enemies among certain Jewish and Roman leaders who saw his power as a threat. According to the New Testament Gospels and other historical sources, some of these leaders conspired to have Jesus arrested, and he was condemned to death by the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate.
